Happy Bastille Day!

I just realized I didn't post anything for July 4th... I've always felt that since black people were still enslaved in 1776, and slavery was not made illegal until the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment in 1865 why should we I be celebrating this so-called "Independence" day.... (Afro-Am 101). But in any case, my family and I still BBQ'd, enjoyed the company of friends and watched the fireworks. But I have to admit, after the election of President Obama, I'm starting to enjoy those red, white and blue fireworks and hot dogs just a little bit more.

OK, enough with the ramblings!

Now, for my French people -- For those who are not familiar with Bastille Day -- it is the French national holiday celebrating the capture of the Bastille prison, which was a symbol of Louis the 16th regime. By capturing the Bastille, it basically showed that the King, in fact, held no absolute power. It sparked the beginning of the French Revolution and the end of an abusive monarchy. That's the quick version.
