Just Glitz And Glamor

I love the glamor of the 40s and 50s. So much to the point that I tried to recapture Dorothy Dandridge's look above for my prom several years ago (ahem ahem). I remember going into this vintage store to begin my quest for the perfect dress (one that would resemble that of Ms. Dandrige's pictured above). I told the owner of the store that I was going for 50s glamor and she said excitedly, "Oh, I have the perfect dress for you!" She went into the back and pulled out from the dungeon a pale yellow tulle, stapless dress. On the hanger it looked good. But when I tried it on the fit was all off. Why is it that women's waists back then were like a size 24 with a ginormous bust?! I felt like needed some Spanx or something for that jumpoff. My proportions were all off- not enough to fill in the top, and too damn tight to even zip the thing up at the waist. And plus, it also looked as if they used like one piece of tulle for the whole dress. It did not have that full, enveloping, luscious look of Dorothy's dress. So, my fantasy dress that day nonetheless didn't work out- but my dream of that dress paired off with all of that marvelous 50s glamor still remains as beautiful as this picture. One day I will find that dress!
