Natural hair, Identity, Relationships, Reactions: In Pictures (Part 1 College)

by Kiffe Coco. in ,

I decided to post pictures to give you guys a visual on my journey through my first two years of college. So here we go down memory lane:

Freshman Year 2004 (above): Going to a fratt party amongst the blondes wooh-hoo!. My comment is tinged with sarcasm. I wore my hair out, which was a rare occasion.

Yet another one of those parties (above). Going with my super slicked hair-this is how I usually rolled.

Me at a house party- I think this was some kind of a braid-out- a tamer look.

Party at Amherst College- Hair was blown out straight.

Straight.

Straight.

Slicked.

Slicked.

Slicked.

Finding myself- walking to my Afro-Am class. Thank the lord. Screw this assimilation bs. I am my own keeper.

When I was going through these pictures, honestly, I cringed. Yes, I think these styles are cute and they looked good at the time. But it was the reason, the unconscious decision as to why I wore my hair like this for the most part. And that was to fit in. I learned over the years that fitting in is just a crock. But we all have to learn in our own way. I found that I am my own keeper, and my own fit. I am me and I love it.
