Here are a couple of snapshots of my hair after I took out my twists worn for two days. Since it is only Wednesday, I won't be enjoying this twist out just yet. I'm sticking to my routine, so I will be putting my hair into a loose protective bun until Friday.
So what's so exciting about this? I switched it up (yet again) and revisited Karen's Body Beautiful, and I must say I really love the way my hair looks.
My Brief History with Karen's Body Beautiful (Hair Nectar and Hair Butter)
These were the other products that sadly made it down to the bottom of the sink (along with SheaMoisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie) until now. I've used KBB Hair Nectar in place of my leave-in conditioner a few times in the past for wash and gos, but unfortunately, I didn't have such great luck with it, since I made the fatal mistake of combining it with Vatika oil. When used together (Hair Nectar as my leave-in and Vatika oil as a sealant) my hair was left superbly greasy, supremely stringy and not to mention, weirdly dry. So for my next wash and go, I switched up the combination: I used Hair Nectar as a leave-in and Ecostyler Gel for a bit of definition. The results came out pretty nice, but I stopped using the products all together as I started to find other products that were more consistent.
I have used KBB Hair Butter in place of shea butter to seal my ends, especially during the cold winter months. But for this twist-out, I decided to give Vatika oil a break (OMG, so hard!), and use the butter as a sealant.
Since I am on my whole "revisiting the bottom of the sink to use up old products" binge, I wanted to give this product another whirl sooner rather than later. The combination I used definitely yields a more "tamed" and defined look .
Here's what I used:
- Aveeno Naturals Nourish + Shine as a leave-in (current)
- Karen's Body Beautiful Hair Butter to seal (oldie)
- Karen's Body Beautiful Hair Nectar used with a bit of water to re-twist hair the next day (oldie).
Here's what I did:
Sunday:
After I shampooed and conditioned my hair, I twisted my hair into four large twists and let it air dry for 15 minutes (so it wasn't dripping wet). I then applied
Aveeno Naturals Nourish + Shine as a leave-in to each section.
Once the conditioner was applied, I added a quarter-sized amount of Karen's Body Beauty Hair Butter to each section to seal, concentrating on ends and edges. I then made 5 two-stranded twists per half, making a total of 10 twists for my entire head.
Scarfed it for the night.
Monday:
The next morning, I re-twisted into smaller twists using a bit of water and less than a pea sized amount of KBB Hair Nectar. No Hair Butter added here. I then divided each individual twist into 2 (to make 10 twists per half, a total of 20). Wore that for the entire day.
Scarfed it for the night. No extra product or butter added.
Tuesday:
Wore the twists in a bun for the entire day.
Scarfed it for the night. Hair Butter added to edges and ends of twists.
Wednesday:
Rubbed a bit of Hair Butter in palms for the take down. Results are super defined, shiny and tame. No big hair here. Will wear twist-out in loose protective bun until the weekend!
So far I really like the results. We'll see how it holds up for the weekend!
Later Guys!
