In Memoriam: Gregory Isaacs

by Kiffe Coco. in

Influential Jamaican reggae musician, Gregory Isaacs, passed away this past Monday, October 25, 2010, after a long battle with lung cancer. His sound was unforgettable and his music, timeless. His music brings me back to those lazy, summer afternoons as a child. The house echoed with songs like "Night Nurse" and "Soon Foward" - listening and dancing, at the same time, as I sipped my sweet, too sweet lemonade, and enjoyed the cool summer breeze.

Song of the Day: Janelle Monáe

by Kiffe Coco. in

I was listening to Janelle Monáe today and decided to post her song "Many Moons." In light of our current political landscape, I thought this song was a good fit. She has a noteworthy musical and artistic style (she reminds me of a mixture between Outkast's musical style and Little Richard/ James Brown). Check out "Many Moons" and be submerged in its political message through single words and phrases.
