Ringing in the New Year Naturally!

by Kiffe Coco. in ,

Welcome back from the holidays everyone!

First off, Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful and positive holiday season. I decided to post some photos from New Years. I decided to go simple- no twisting or braiding to set my hair- just some water and coconut oil to revive. I washed my hair the night before and let it air dry. I decided to wear my hair in its natural state (no curl manipulation) for New Years to start the year off right. Anyway, here are some pics from that night!

Hair Resolution 2010

Hey Guys,

As I continue to try to get rid of my million bottles of shampoo and conditioners, I am conjuring up a new regime for 2010. Actually it will probably be some of my old techniques that I used to do back in the day to achieve big hair combined with my new knowledge of hair products that work with my hair.

Realization for 2009:

I don't get the volume I like by setting my hair:

I realized that when I would set my hair at night after a wash(either by doing a twist out or a braid out), my morning hair would be relatively flat because of my texture. Now, this is not relatively a bad thing if I want a more tame look. And, I know this method works great for a lot of people, but sadly, I realized for me and for my texture hair I could never really achieve big hair that I wanted by setting it. So, I am thinking of another way to try to achieve wild and crazy hair.

Resolutions and Goals:

1) To achieve big hair and to continue to grow it out healthy by being consistent with my product use.

2) To stop slacking off on the henna and deep conditioning treatments!!!!!!!

Lastly, as a sidenote, to slacking off on the gym and using the excuse "because I am tired and it's cold outside."

What are your hair resolutions for 2010? What worked, what didn't? What will you do differently or continue to do? Hmm...

Dry Flat Twist Out

Here are some photos of my hair after I took down my flat twists, which I done on dry hair. I did about 5 sections. Also, I added a bit of coconut oil to moisturize the ends.

Tightly Curly Method

by Kiffe Coco. in ,

Hello beautiful people! Welcome back from the weekend. As promised, I wanted to show you my results from Teri's Tightly Curly Method. First, I washed and conditioned my hair with Aubrey Organics Honey Suckle Rose, then I conditioned with Suave Naturals Coconut conditioner. I then put my hair into four sections and loaded them up with a "combing" conditioner. There is a list of combing conditioners on the Tightly Curly website to use for when you are defining your strands. I happened to have some left over Aussie Moist conditioner, which worked pretty well.

Once your hair us loaded up with conditioner and section, using a Denman brush, I combed through each section separating the curls, smoothing, then twirling each strand. I am not going to lie, I didn't literally do each strand as Teri did because it is really time consuming for one. But, I twirled the major players ;-) Once you have smoothed and twirled each section, you are done. That's it. The only thing you have to do is not touch it (to avoid frizz) and to let it air dry. I did it at night and even having slept on it, my curls managed to stay bouncy and unflattened.

A little note of caution: you might feel your curls are a little crunchy when drying from all the conditioner, but when dried, they should be soft.

I really loved the results and how my curls looked. The style lasted me about a week. By around third day, I combed out some of the curls with a pick for extra fullness and volume. It was great!
