Twisty Knots Revisited

by Kiffe Coco. in ,

The other night I decided to do "twisty knots" after my co-wash. I decided not to do as many out of sheer laziness. I did about six knots, using Giovanni Direct Leave-In with some B5 Design Gel (for my edges). However, when I woke up my hair was still not 100% dry, so I just put it in a loose bun. The last two pictures are of my hair after I took it down from the bun.

My Henna Rave!

by Kiffe Coco. in ,

I had to dedicate yet another post to the greatness of Henna. I have used Henna about two times now, and I am loving the results. My hair has never felt softer, or looked this shiny, since I don't know when! For my second treatment, I added amla and brahmi, which are other Aruveydic herbs, to the Henna. I feel that the Amla and Brahmi helped in conditioning my hair as well. I am going to continue on with this mix. It might become my staple!

I have heard some people say that Henna and/or Amla dries out their hair. In this case I would try following up with a non-protein deep conditioner to avoid any dryness. I usually do a 30-45 minute deep conditioning treatment after henna. After the deep conditioning, I leave in some conditioner and twist using Aubrey Organics B5 Design Gel. I make 4 sections (5 twists per section).

My Mix Consists of:
  • Jamila Henna
  • Amla
  • Brahmi
  • Vanilla Honey Chamomile Tea
  • Honey
(Sorry guys, I am guilty. I do not measure. I eyeball everything. I just make sure the mix has the consistency of thick yogurt).

Day 2 after Henna (this is a twist out):

Henna Numero 2

by Kiffe Coco. in ,

I decided to Henna this weekend after a long Henna hiatus of 4 weeks! I used not only Henna, but Amla (which is also heard to have great conditioning properties, and works as a toner against the red in Henna), and Brahmi (which controls dandruff and strengthens hair). These three herbs worked pretty well together. I mixed the herbs with some vanilla honey chamomile tea, honey and left it in overnight. My hair was left shiny, and I feel like my hair has become noticeably thicker as well. I love this stuff! The first two pictures are of my results after I Hennaed and deep conditioned my hair - -a simple wash and go with coconut oil. The third is the Henna mix applied to my hair.
