La Jupon

Every time I go back home to visit, I'm often hit with a wave of nostalgia -- and that nostalgia prompts me to look through old photos, home movies (pass me the Kleenex), etc... On my last visit home, I found an old copy of French Elle (with the beautiful Naomi Campbell on the cover), from the time I interned there over the summer which feels like a zillion years ago (oh god, that cannot say 2003 in the lower right hand corner...no way!!!). I was photographed along with a few other interns and staff for a street style series highlighting the "jupon"  or pretty, flowy, girly skirts. I was so psyched for it and so eager to show off a bit of "new yorkaise" style.

Though now my sister knows that I stole her Adidas track jacket that summer...about that...

Beauty + Luxury + Pop= M/G+R

Today, I wanted to showcase some very special images that my dad and two of his longtime creative partners formulated under their still life photography company, M/G+R.

M/G+R [ShopStudioNYC] is a collective of three very extraordinary talents who have the power and imagination to transform a simple shoe into an extraordinary piece of contemporary art. Photographer Mark Platt, Art Director Guillaume Bruneau and digital imaging and post-productionist Ray Martinez are the visual masterminds behind M/G+R.

Their work exemplifies their passion to redefine still life photography by creating images that offer viewers a compelling (and fun) visual experience. Their work also tells the brilliant story of texture and pigment magnified.

Working closely with these luxury materials, they are attuned and dedicated to expressing the visual story of each unique object. I am amazed each and every time by their artistry as well as their down-to-earth wisdom of their craft.

If I could sum up their work in a few words, I would say it is: Fresh, fun and far from conventional. It just POPS!

Vogue Black: The Barbie Issue

When I was little, I was obsessed with Barbie dolls (directly following my truck phase). So naturally when I cam across this issue from Vogue Black, I thought it was ingenious, and of course, it brought me back to my "little girl days."

Beauty in the Sand

When I was a little girl and my eyes came across this spread featured in ELLE Magazine, I was totally in love. I was enamored by the images, the color, the fashion and Morocco. I remembered it being a really big deal for me to see a beautiful, brown woman gracing this 10-page spread. I wanted to be her because she was beauty to me, and in many ways a reflection of my mother, who is my ultimate idol.  Even now when I look at this spread, I am awestruck by its beauty.
