What do shark week, eggs benedict and Derek Jeter all have in common?
Nothing - but the concert I attended yesterday made those three things fit like a hand and glove.
My boyfriend and I went to see my all time favorite Canadian hip-hop artist, K-OS. My ears were in heaven as they were enveloped by some amazing sounds. His two opening acts, whom I was actually most impressed with, Astronautalis and Shad, were exceptional. They both had entirely different flows, but their great vibe and energy was felt throughout the crowd. They illustrated the true artistry of hip-hop and the age-old life form of freestyle. How many times can a crowd shout out random nouns, and have the artist make an unmeditated verse from it? And, even more, for that verse to sound good! This concert revealed to me why the spirit of good hip-hop is so unforgettable, so contagious, and so lovable.
And oh, those two were extremely down to earth, mixing in and chatting with the crowd between sets. Such cool guys!
K-OS of course was phenomenal. His presence was a little more than assertive - he knew what he was doing, and he also let the audience know too. But the man is truly talented and not once did he come across as packaged or phony. His band was incredible too!
The cherry on the cake was the encore performance: K-OS, Shad and Astronautalis shared the stage for a freestyle performance that was indeed memorable.
