I wanted to share with you my hair care routine by giving you a break down of the products I use and what I do on a weekly basis. I always strive for a routine that is simple and consistent, and so I try not to switch up my products too much, especially when it comes to products that I am actually leaving in my hair. I notice when there is consistent product usage my hair is at its happiest.
My Hair Rules
At the beginning of the year, I made a few "hair" rules that I told myself I had to abide by:
- Absolutely, positively no heat! Last year even though I used heat only occasionally, I especially cracked when it came to diffusing, blow drying and doing the occasional one to two flat iron passes to further elongate a braid out, for instance. This year no more. I have been heat free since January, and it has taught me how to appreciate my hair without the use of heat, no matter how infrequent it was.
- Trim ends 2-3 times a year. For my hair as it stands, trimming every four to six months is sufficient. I've learned no matter how well you are taking care of your hair, you still must trim! The natural wear and tear of your hair is unavoidable, so don't be afraid to trim those ends, especially when they're feeling a bit rough.
- Try to stick with products that work. I cannot stress this enough. Consistency is so important, especially when it comes to the potential of your hair. We all have that product junkie living inside of us (I know I do), or we get bored with a product even if it is working fine. One tip your hair and wallet will thank you for is to at least finish the products you have already, then switch over to another if you must (I know this is hard). But like I said if it ain't broke, don't fix it -- stick with it!
Products
***Note*** These are products that have worked for my needs during my hair journey, and so I am not mandating these products by any means. I encourage everyone's mission of finding their own staple products and I offer my product list just as a resource.
