Bronx Zoo | Butterflies, Flamingos + Butterfly Koi

by Sophia B.

Taking advantage of the beautiful weather this past Sunday, the mister and I went to the Bronx Zoo. It's been a long while since I've been to the zoo! I mean the last time I went to the zoo I was probably sporting two braids and a school uniform. So yeah, we are talking over a decade here. In any case, we took the long train ride from Brooklyn to the Bronx to get our safari thang on.

First off for those of you who aren't familiar with the Bronx Zoo, it's huge and the animals are, for the most part, in free roaming habitats uncaged, which I appreciate. Anyway, my favorite part was the gorillas! It was kind of surreal to be looking at something so close to human beings. It was like looking at the past.

Below are a few pictures I wanted to share (none of gorillas, even though I just hyped them up). It was sort of a zoo (no pun intended) in the gorilla section--I couldn't capture any good shots. The butterfly garden and bird habitats, however, were a lot less congested and just as majestic. All in all, it was great to feel like a kid again in the awe of nature.

Fall Forward

Even though Fall isn't officially here yet (still trying to hang on to the little summer we got left!), I am ready to hit the books. No, I am not going back to actual school just yet. But I enrolled myself in a little class. A (graphic) design class to be exact. I want to take my design skills (or lack thereof) to another level. I'm starting off with the mother of all design programs, the Adobe Creative Suite programs, Photoshop and InDesign. I am so excited! I always loved doing mini design projects on the side, and though it's fun spending hours toiling through Photoshop and InDesign trying to figure out how to "fill layers" and "link text boxes," I decided to get down to the nitty gritty and learn the basics.

The nerd glasses are on.

How are you expanding your mind this Fall?
