August is here, and so are the heat and humidity. Quite honestly, my hair always acts kind of crazy this time of year, but I switched up a few products in my routine that I feel have been really beneficial in terms of keeping my hair super hydrated.
Here it goes:
Wash
I still do a shampoo wash once a week, and in terms of the kind of shampoo, anything that is sulfate-free.
Condition
You know, the usual conditioning jazz after shampooing. Afterwards, I do a deep treatment. Recently, I've been using Shea Moisture Anti-Breakage Mask. It smells divine and seems to be really moisturizing. I put a plastic cap and let that sit for about 30-45 minutes.
Finger combing
This summer I put down my wide tooth comb and Denman brush (not for any reason in particular) and chose to detangle my hair with my fingers instead. After I wash, condition and deep condition, I apply Kinky Curly Knot Today to four sections. I then finger comb each section.
Style
After detangling, I apply a light oil (like almond) and Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie to make twists (4) or braids (2-3) for the evening. The next day, I'll put it in a protective style such as a bun.
As you all know, when it comes to my hair I am the opposite of rigid in that sometimes I can be really on top of it - deep conditioning once a week; moisturizing and protecting every day. And sometimes I'm not. My hair is definitely, how shall we say, free-spirited.
In terms of the above products, I have to say, they really have been working great at keeping my hair moisturized, and in terms of that summer frizz (especially for when I'm wearing my hair back) a little Eco Styler Gel always does the trick.
What have been some of your hair tricks this summer?
Oh, and I got new glasses!
Have a lovely weekend, everyone!
