Where Have I Been? An Update On My Update.

by Kiffe Coco. in ,

I am so sorry ya'll! It has been a hot minute since my last post. What can I say... life has gotten in the way. So much time has passed that I am literally a year older (my birthday was this past week). So yes, it has been way too long!

But in hair news, my hair has been progressing! I am definitely starting to notice a bit of length (as my mom pointed out to me the other day). I am so excited! Somehow, I feel as if I haven't really noticed since I see my hair everyday ;-)

My February regime is nothing drastically different. I have been increasingly using shea butter, as it has been so darn cold, and wearing my hair in protective styles. My sentiment for shea butter has definitely changed these past couple of months. I feel because the weather is increasingly colder my hair craves the heaviness of shea.

Anywho, I am really excited to see where my growth will be by the summer. We'll see. My motto for these harsh winter months: moisturize and protect.

Good vibes and happy growing!

My Hair Today!

Hey guys,

Yesterday I decided to take my dry bantu knot/twist out, comb it out with my Denman, slather some coconut oil, and braid it up in big, loose braids (I made 5 braids). I actually really liked the results. Sometimes simple is better when it comes to my hair.

I got my Tracee Ellis Ross Hair on! Well, kind of...

So, I tried the dry bantu twist out! Going in was good-I used my Denman to brush out my curl pattern (I didn't brush all the way through my hair though). Then, I dampened each section with a spritz of water and applied Fantasia IC Hair Polisher (the clear serum). Twisted, knotted, put my satin bonnet on top and called it a night. When I awoke, most of my knots were still intact (thanks to the bobby pins- some of my knots were being stubborn and kept unraveling). I started to take them down from the back, untwisting from the bottom up. When they were all taken down, to be honest, I wasn't feeling the initial look. I separated each section, but for some reason some curls were looking kind of "wormy." I was really thinking something was wrong with my hair- it just doesn't take setting well. Or maybe, it's something I'm doing wrong- some fatal error that is compromising the success of my twist outs/ braidouts. So anyway, I went over it gently with my Denman to kind of "puff" and soften it out a bit, which did help some. But, I winded up putting a headband over it. However, when I was at work I noticed the curls started to look fluffier and softer as the day went on. It started to look good finally- so I ditched the headband. In closing, this process wasn't a complete disaster. I think it is just a question of some slight tweaking-we'll see. I still remain hopeful.
